Are you using the launcher and not the patcher, Azh?

I was and I switched it and it works faster. Before that though, I'd get the connect erre, the shut down and immediately restart the patcher and after a few / several times it would work ...sometiimes.

When I got the patcher to work yesterday evening, it did so after several quick restarts of the patcher. When I switche dto the launcher, it qued up the screen with the play button almost immediately. Also the launcher was in soem wierd place like User / AppData / Temp / Rar$EX<somethin>

I've tried Mortal Online Launcher.exe and updater.exe. Both time out when trying to connect to the patch server.

I posted on their forum. I'm not the only one running into these problems.

But, I did finally get my beta key for Dawntide, so I'll probably be posting something on that game later today.

If you're trying to DL the patchs, just select the torrent and run it by itself. You just need to DL Utorrent or something like that.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Start Vault\Mortal Online\patches
They'd be in this folder.
The patcher has to atleast DL the torrent file, then you can run it manually.

I couldn't get the thing to patch, so that's what I did. The only one I didn't use an outside torrent for was the last patch. It was rather small and the MO patcher was doing decent speed.

Awesome! Thanks Hamurak.

I'm in game right now attempting to circumambulate the game wolrd.
Anyone have a "good" map or know where one is? I'm using this rough map but I've no idea how accurate or not it is. I think the sun in game is in the "west". Well, I'm using that as an assumption to help navigate. If so, I am in what I believe to be the SE corner of the map going clockwise.

It'd be nice to run into someone I was confident wouldn't kill me or try to steal everything I own (not much).

I found this one last night:
http://www.navemap.com/myrland

I'm in Fabernum or whatever it's called, trying to chop trees and not get killed every 5 seconds Wink

Here's the translation for that sequence at the bottom. I extracted the whole thing to SV\MO like it says , clicked the "new" launcher, and it started updating. Only 22 hours to go for the first patch Rolling Eyes

If you guys are having issues with the launcher's torrent program, check and make sure that your ports, namely 1108, have been opened.

Oh, and another solution to fix the remote server error is to run updater.exe until it downloads and installs the new launcher. You might need to run it a couple times, but once it goes through, you shouldn't encounter the problem anymore.

Downloaded and updated.

Created a character and spawned at a random town, where there was much mining at a large rock in the center. Found out that I was born without a harvesting skill... Sad

I fell off the mountain at Fabernum last night while in ghost mode, so now I am making my way to Meduli, which I hear is a happening town.

Edit: Stopped off at Kranesh and learned that banks are not worldwide...so back to Fabernum to get my stuff. Also noticed Kranesh is guard free.

Created a new character, and spawned by the tower south of Fabernum. Headed down the mountainside to the lake. Took a tour around the lake going clockwise, and found myself in the town of Fabernum, where I crashed. Killed some Gazelles and another small critter along the way. Passed a guy who had tamed a giant boar.

Hey Grish, since you're in Fabernum I'll hang around there for a bit, see if I can run into you. In game as Lug of course.

Found a fix for the missing book issue, the folks on the IRC channel suggested deleting all MO files and reinstalling but there is a download that did the trick.

TO fix the book bug, there is a single .db file you can download and replace the older one. Fixed it for me.

content.db link

Put the file in your Mortal Online>Atlas>Data>Nowgame>Content>(folder with a string of numbers for a name) and overwrite the old content.db this will fix the missing basic skill books bug.

I decided to check MO beta out tonight, made some characters, walked around the starting town, killed some chickens and sold their remains for 50 silver.

From what I've seen it matches with what I've heard said, this game is a lot rougher than Darkfall was when I tried out its beta. Still concept wise I like it, and apparently there's some big patches coming this month. Can only hope MO or Dawntide turn out to be good games eventually.

I had no problems installing and running it after I had installed Windows Installer 3.1 and .net 3.5. The MO Installer added PhysX for me, so didn't need to do that manually.

The last few times I've tried to login, I started with nothing at all in my backpack. Makes it kind of difficult to get started.

News about upcoming patches:

Quote:
Dear community,

As you know we have been working on fixing the lag we have been experiencing during the latest open beta phase. We've successfully pinpointed the main reasons for his and are currently solving them as fast as we can.

We have also had some problems with our patcher, both in the terms of a huge amount of new players trying to connect to the game, and that we had too few servers hosting the data. We have now updated this and it should work a lot better now. As already announced the (by now) outdated client on the Mortal Online DVDs will now properly update itself.

We will have a small patch on Monday 15th of February, containing a combat overhaul which will improve the overall feeling and flow of the combat. This includes updated hit boxes, real weapon arcs (to hit your target more accurately not relying on where your “crosshair” is but where the actual blade is), some bug fixes and some small features. We are looking forward to hearing your response on these important changes.

On 22th of February we will release a huge content patch including even more combat changes, changes to the magic system, new weapons, obviously new content as in new areas, pickables/resources, npcs and mobs, new player buildings and some other stuff you may find very interesting.

We are looking forward to release these patches as they affect the core of the combat in the game and we think the result is very good so far. This is of course something we will continuously improve and polish since it’s an important factor of the game.

A little bit of new info on Magic...

Quote:
This was in IRC[...]

Tal: Magic. Will only magic builds be successful?

Henrik: talfryn of course

Tal: When can we see a real diversity in magic, with assisting classes, and utility spells?

Henrik: Soon

Tal: Henrik, will there be unique spells/abilities that only a few players have, or that players must find?

Henrik: talfryn yes, some things will be spawned once only or a few times, if you find that skill/spell or such, you are in control of its destiny, as in will you share the skill/spell/info?

Tal: Henrik, will there be any degree of sub specialization within magic, IE some people wind up healing while others do wind spells (Wild guess)?

Henrik: Talfryn, there will be a lot of magic coming along the other magic schools. we have about 12 or 13 planned completely diff magic schools.

PopeUrban: About when can we expect to start seeing more schools Henrik?

Henrik: they will be implemented into the world whe you least knows it, to you to find out, and share with the rest if you are interested in doing so

Tal: Henrik, could you reveal to us some of the possible candidates for the upcoming new magic schools?

Henrik: talfryn hmmm, necromancy
