HOOWAH SAINTS!

Super Bowl XLIV Champions

That's another mark in the W column for underdogs.

The thing that determined it for me, as to the best team there tonight, was not the amazing move to do an onside kick at the start of the third quarter, nor was it the textbook perfect interception return for 74 yards and a touchdown.

The defining moment was in the last minute and a half when the Saints defense dug in their heels and denied Peyton Manning and the Colts that last opportunity to rally.

Truly Hell hath frozen over for the Saints have finally won the big one. I'm glad I lived to witness this in my lifetime, maybe the paper bags are gone forever now.

Congratulations Saints

And I told you Bourbon Street would be standing room only.

I have to say that was one of the best played and officiated games I have ever seen. There were very few penalties, and they all seemed to be correct, only one questionable play, which was challenged and overturned, and solid play by both teams. The Colts offensive line did an amazing job, and Manning had plenty of time to find his receivers. Tracy Porter made a brilliant move on the interception, and that was the play that sealed the game.

Wish I was in New Orleans right now...

We're leaving my cousin's now to go to Bourbon, which is three blocks down. The street cars are running too! They have never run this late.. EVER!

For all the people that doubted my boys...

SUCK IT!

Four point spread in favor of the Colts... puh-lease.

As Bobby Hebert just said on the radio...

WHO DAT SAY DEY GOIN BEAT DEM SAINTS?!? NOBODY! NOBODY!

BELIEVE DAT!

I have to go do the dishes in the kitchen and even being completely worn out and to tired to... not even the dishes seem to bad on the night of a Saints Superbowl win.

Congrats Met'ug on your boys bringing it home. Truly a team to be proud of tonight.

Hoowah!

That was a great game from both sides, only a couple key plays, and no big mistake, except for that interception....

Well fought, down to the wire...Great game to watch.

good game; the commercials were way below my expected laughter level from past super bowls though.

Go win a few more and then I'll "suck it". I wont even say win 5 more because only the greatest NFL franchise of all time has accomplished that feat Smile

Grats to the Saints and their fans. Drew Brees is an amazing QB and the Saints D stepped up big time. I hope this can mark a turning point for New Orleans as there is still a lot that needs to be done in that city.

Who dat actually originated back in the early 70's if I remember right... local news station had a whole show dedicated to the history of the slogan and other odd facts about the Saints... I'll see if I can find the info.

No one is sure who actually started it but the chant didn't originate from Saints. They didn't start using until 1983 when Bum Phillips was coach. Fans of Southern University used it in the '60s. Theirs was, "Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Jags"

If you folks wish to watch the Saints Superbowl parade, Nola.com will be broadcasting it live for people who can't bare the crowds or just live too far away to go. It will broadcast today at 5pm Central time.

http://www.nola.com/live/index.ssf/2010/02/catch_the_new_orleans_saints_p.html

I'll be there.

I grew up with these guys - watched Manning take his beating every season, wore the bag on the head, the whole enchilada - this was just so indescribably awesome! I only wish I could have been back on the old turf for the celebrating Smile

I'm still amazed at how the Colt apologetics are still going strong... it's getting tiresome to keep hearing the new angle on how the Colts gave it to the Saints. Skah that! The Saints -took- it! They flat beat a damned fine Colts team! WHO DAT, DAMMIT?!!?!?!!!?

I really haven't heard many Colts apologists. I think the general consensus among most NFL fans is that Drew Breeze is simply awesome. Think of the dragons that were slain by the dude on his way to super bowl MVP. He beat Warner, Favre and Manning in a single playoff run. Three of the greatest QBs to play the game, certainly the greatest of Breeze's era, and he defeated them all. Colts fans have a reason to be bitter over Manning choking in another big game, but the Saints were the better team that night, no denying it.

I don't even think it was really Manning's fault. It was just a smart, heads-up play by the Saints defense that produced the game-clinching TD. That slant play worked for them all season, and they even used it earlier in the game successfully. But, the Colts ran into an intelligent defensive corps. Sharper is known to be an avid student of opposing quarterbacks, and I think his work ethic has rubbed off on some of the other players. And with results like this, I hope they keep studying!

The Colts fans have been mostly polite from what I've seen, especially in comparison to the Favre-fans.

And you really can't deny that it was a good game. Even up by 14 with 3 minutes left, I still was on the edge of my seat as the Colts pushed downfield again and threatened to score. It wasn't until that final 4th down drop that I was able to sigh with relief and truly celebrate!

The Saint's defensive core is no more intelligent than the Jets, far less so if you look to the statistics. Manning choked, big time. Its ok, he does it a lot in big games. There is no shame in accepting that. Be proud that the Saint's D was in place to take advantage of it, but Breeze was the guy who won that game for the Saints, not Sharper.

I don't think I would ever call a 31-45 for 333 yards a 'choke'. It wasn't as if Manning threw across the field off his back foot while running a bootleg. The pass was right on target, but Porter stepped up into it, blocking the receiver from the ball, making the catch and taking it home. How did he do that? Because he studied the Colts, knew that when they doubled up two receivers on short yardage plays they liked to throw the slant pass, so he stayed in place, didn't bite and turn upfield, watched Manning and moved in at exactly the right moment. That's just a smart play on his part.

I never claimed that the Saints defense was the best thing since sliced bread or were singlehandedly responsible for the win, I was just responding to your claim that Manning blew it, which I find to be a little ridiculous.
