Use this thread to discuss Fallout 76. With its limited multiplayer capabilities this does serve as an opportunity for Shadowclan members to get together and enjoy the opportunities for both the PvE world and the PvP opportunities that West Virginia will bring 20 years after the bombs dropped.

My thinking is that we ought to RP as (non-super)mutants/ghouls. Perhaps a group of pre-war juvenile offenders who sheltered in the basement of their "juvie" detention center and eventually overcame the adult guards. Perhaps some are even their offspring?

Familiar things:
Name- Shadderclan? Shadaclan?
Bald heads - due to the rads.
Broken English - We've gone savage. Not so much feral ghouls, but feral humans become ghouls. It's been a LONG TIME since any of us have watched TV or listened to the radio. We won't speak Orcish, but rather a bastardized and even MORE-corrupted hillbilly version of English.

Things that'd be different:
Any skin color is fine.
Ghouls call humans "smoothskins," I think we'd maybe say "smoothies?"
Due to us roleplaying as backwards orphans in the beginnings of the American South, I would prefer to avoid any of us spelling "clan" with a k.

I want to think that at some point Creation Club would make available non-feral ghoul skins. If not, perhaps a mod when those become available? I'm thinking Bethesda would either host (limited) mods for the game on their own server or on Steam.

Rather than the Wargod or other past religious bents, we'd be more like some VERY unconventional Children of the Atom. We worship atomic bombs. I want to steal a bit from the rather cool Planet of the Apes cartoons I watched as a kid 43 years ago and have us call our god "Oosah." When we found our first atomic missile, it had "USA" painted on the side.

I think the idea of being a type of ghoul is definitely a good one.

When you go to the nuked sites if you're not wearing say power armor or a hazmat suit (I'm assuming here) you can get mutations.

My thinking is that we might want to go for certain mutations, or keep them if they're the RIGHT mutations (right for our RP, rand not completely crippling).

There's suggestions that there may be ways of making them permanent.

The game WILL have microtransactions, these are cosmetic, and can be earned /worked for in-game.

The way you get into Fallout 76 B.E.T.A. (Break-it Early Test Application) is to pre-order the game. You can do so on the Bethesda site. Note: The Power Armor Edition (with the helmet) is already sold out.

I will be pre-ordering soon. Of course atm, that just gets us on the list to be contacted later.

Things to remember: Ghouls in Fallout are NOT undead the way we normally think of them. Non-feral ghouls (which we'd be) are more or less the same people they were when they were human, they just LOOK like zombies. They don't die or age, they don't eat.

I think it'd be a great idea for us to try to adapt as much of the West Virginia/Appalachian accent into our language as we can. We've also been isolated for quite some time in/around a probably-faulty non-Vault-Tec fallout shelter. Given that we were teens when we were incarcerated, our speech has likely mutated a bit via our "in-group slang."

Aside from the numbered rules, what you want to do at this link is to listen to the audio tingie up top. Unlike most southerners (and New Yawkahs), West Virginians DO pronounce their Rs. Sometimes even when there shouldn't be an R there (so "holler," "foller," "warsh" and so forth). Then there's how long I is pronounced. Non and fov rather than nine and five.

Note that it's y'all/all y'all rather than "yinz" (what they say in nearby western Pennsylvania).

As in AAVE, pen and pin are both pronounced "pin." I don't know if West Virginians say "inkpin" sometimes to clarify the difference between the two. Probably that won't ever come up.

Appalachian English

Dialect of West Virginia

Appalachian Words

Mountain Talk

Also Remember the history of Fallout comes out of the 50's. The Appalachian style of passing history through song (Blue Grass Originated here) and story telling as opposed to written word was still strong. Indded Music was imbedded in day to day life.

Vocals

Front Porch Music

Clog

Mountain folk are very tight knit, and suspicious of outsiders, they may have been the original Shadow Clanners.

Old hillbilly ghouls. well I reckon' y'all find me yonder down the holler.

I'll definitely be playing Fallout 76, but will most likely be doing so on the PS4. I'll keep watching this thread though, who knows.

Love your speech idea. I'm from Kentucky and pen and pin DO sound the same! And some of our 'necks say warsher instead of washer Very Happy Easiest RP ever!
