...consider this to be a rough draft of the translation back to Irekei. Smile
I did not try to Irekei-ize the English words that I couldn't find in the lexicon, so let me know how you would translate the words in italics.
While I don't see that I am likely to completely convert to your idea of S-O-V, I do think there are many occasions where complex sentences are more clear with that structure.

From the transcript of the Lore NPC, Semra the Blood Prophet:
(Thanks again to Arkhubar for posting this on the UBI forum)

Quote:
Semra the Blood Prophetess
I see you are no vision sent to tempt me. You are flesh, an intruder in these sands. Once my people ruled these sands, and it was death to walk here without our leave. But now my Virakt wanders, far from our home, while the brutes of Chaos pollute this place with their foulness. I am a prophet to my people, and to me the Dragon has revealed that this is a test, a trial my tribe must endure. And we shall endure it, for we are Irekei, the chosen children of Kryqho'khalin. I linger here, braving the ire of Morloch's Orcs, to ensure that the ancient Pacts are still honored so that the greatest legacies of my tribe shall not be lost.

Know this: once these lands were a realm of shadow and terror, a tangle of trees and chaos. There the Hateful Once, the Elves, dwelt in their ignorance and perversity. But the waking of the Dragon shook down their hateful towers, and the kindling of th Sun, the Dragon's great gift, scoured these lands clean. My anscestors saw the worth of these gifts, long before they were transformed by the Khalikryst, the transforming flame of our mother Phoenix. They stayed here when the Hateful Ones fled the Sun's light, and worked long and hard to eradicate all traces of the ancient blasphemies of the Elves.

I just noticed this message from you. What have you got? Is this something you can attach to an email?

Sorry to overwhelm you with all that, but my ocd is acting up and I'm on an Irekei Language Rampage. Cool

First off, I don't want this thread locked! This is and always has been a great open forum for those who are interested in the language. I guess what I meant, but didn't express correctly, was that I think the Language Reference including the word lists and "rules" could be separated out and put in a locked thread, which can be updated as necessary. We all can continue to use this thread and/or others for discussion. For me it has been confusing to try and find the right information within this thread (since you keep editing your earlier posts. Very Happy )

In the long run it doen't matter at all. And, as always, its up to the Mods to run this forum as they see fit. !!!!!

As far as the paragraphs go, there are some glaring errors that I can already see. oops! I'll go back to Irekei 101 and try again.

I'd definately want a copy of any old language docs or anything else that you might have. I'll PM my email addy to you.

Now I'll cut and past your latest revisions into my docs and take a look.
by the way, I'm glad you're still interested in this topic. It was always important to me, and I wished I had more time to work with this when I was more active in the game. But then again, when I was more active in the game I was spending all of my time trying to get my characters leveled up in that darn SB XP grind.

Speaking of which, I see in the UBI boards that Panthro had nominated himself as "PvE Advocate". Laughing HUR HUR

Lak'at prakla'ji tarkhit,

If we got a stickied and locked lang reference separate, we'd have to rely on mods to keep it up to date. Something I doubt they'd want to do and I seriously doubt they would give me Mod status. I think we are good for right now. You and I seem to be the only two seriously interested in chiming in (Kiros might be browsing through here, but he isn't saying anything).

Perhaps we should start thinking of some Irekei sayings and slang.

There is one already:
Pashnu = same here, likewise

Perhaps a couple more for things one might say.

I have also thought about coming up with some unique things. For instance, words whose meanings do not translate easily into English. It seems to me that Irekei, in a hunting party, would be very concerned about leaving tracks in the sand. So perhaps we should have a verb that literally translates to to make tracks in the sand. Sand is a central part of Irekei life and so is hunting and tracking.

Fersek = to make tracks in the sand. (coming from Freka 'to make' and Syk 'trace/track'. Probably in early usage this was a whole phrase Freka syk'al, but over time it became so used that it eventually evolved into the modern verb 'fersek') The literal translation refers to leaving tracks in the sand only, though through recent vir'ov raids it may have come to mean to leave tracks anywhere (snow, mud, forests, etc.).

Fir'khanim cha'dikh! Visko? Dekha fersek'aq-cho!
The rainbleeders are near! See? They made many tracks in the sand!

One other verb I came up with was:

Sifi = to waste water. (from Sota 'to use' and Fir 'rain/water')

Visko zihn qhese Fir'khanSkah sifi, jov uonder dekha lasa'tikm ghoko ruus vir.
Look how these Rainbleeder filth waste water, no wonder they always die in the desert.

pa'ruk = a heavy rug dragged behind an Irekei who is travelling the sands to help cover his tracks.

Tafa = Irekei Head covering. A cloth wrap which covers the head and face, leaving only the eyes exposed. This word is specific to the Irekei head cover.

Ta'ad = Helmet, Hat, Hood. This includes any headgear other than the Irekei Head Wraps. (Coming from "tah" + "shahad", meaning "Above Cover").

I've never stopped adding to this expansion of the language, but I have been going a bit easy on the additions lately. The new interest in a Lore server, however, has reinvigorated me.

I have changed a few minor things. If you possess copies of this expansion on your computer you may want to copy/paste the expansion again, the changes will be hard to find, but are very necessary to the language.

I've also added:

Haleh = Meat

Ibshi = A particular type of meat taken from I'nahib sheep, which thrive in the short grasses near rivers and the coast and which most Irekei societies raise as a main food source.

I'nahib = A particular type of sheep raised by Irekei.

Aneh = An edible cactus common to the desert. It is first plucked and skinned, then it is eaten raw for its water component. Irekei would consider cooking this a waste of water, however, the Bhalalar, corrupt merchant Irekei, and fir'khanim consider cooked Aneh a delicacy.

Kesh = A particular seed about the size of a small pebble that comes from the Keshar trees, which grow in the desert. This seed is used in much Irekei cousine.

I have switched the words for brave and timid/cowardly

Brave = Ira

Cowardly/Timid = Ura

This keeps them in sync with the positive and negative connotations of IRI and URI, to which these words are related.

Changed Da'abneh to mean "Fortress, Stronghold" because I just now realized we use "Khali" to mean "city". Razz

The special case of male and female descriptions.

The example I will use is the word jhor.

Jhor literally means brother or sister of the same nation or vir'akt. It may also mean a brother or sister in the same family. However, because the Irekei are communal the importance of individual families is diminished.

When in it is necessary to make the distinction between male or a female tthen the suffix -a is attached to the end of the word.

Jhora = Sister, Female Irekei of the same nation.
Irekeia = Female Irekei
Fir'khana = a female 'rain-bleeder'

This suffix comes before all other suffixes for a word.

Jhora'al = (Joh-Rah Ahl) Sisters, Female Irekei (plural)
Fir'khanaim = (Feer Khan-Ah-Yeem) Female 'rain-bleeders'
