I know I keep seeing those mechs around but haven't looked into what they are.

Is that the core combat expansion? How good are they and whats needed to spec into one?

Basically you nailed everything on the head..

They're mechs. From the core combat expansion pack.
BFR = Battle Frame Robotics (I think?)

It's 4 cert points, or 3, but you have to have one 5-10 (I forgot) core combat battles.

They are very good, in fact I kind of hate how they turn the tide of war. Whoever has the most BFR's wins the battle, hands down.

Speaking of core combat...

I noticed when I log in, there is a link called "order core combat", which is greyed out to me. Next to that, there is a message "1 expansion enabled"-Does this mean I already have CC? If so, how do I access that content?

AFAIK, reserves comes with CC. Pre-existing accounts were also given CC when reserves launched.

I can't stand bfr's. They're damned near invincible and carry a lot of firepower. Bleh....

You just throw a jammer grenade at them then shoot their little weak-spot thingy.

Infantry is the counter to the mechs.

Yes if infantry get under their legs BFR's are gonners.

They have these neon glowing boxs on their rear-gut area. Jammer grenades (cant shoot) and bow the box and they start going critical all over the place.

everytime I gun for a mech pilot we get taken down pretty quick if infantry get close at all.

Every loadout you have should have jammer grenades hands down. I have kept myself alive and tons of other people alive from charging tanks and mechs by lobbing jammers all over.

Akru can attest..when we tried getting some action we got jammed and swarmed and killed...Jammers are pretty much required by the average infantryman.

This be the first time I've heard of this. Soooo let me play 20 questions with you for a moment.

What are the primary differences between the grenade types (as in what are they used for, who do the hurt the most, ect)?

Does this apply to the punisher ordinances (fragmentary, plasma, ect)?

Is AP ammo actually useful for something?

Is there anywhere this is all written down so I can stop asking 2 billion questions everytime I heard something new? Wink

Frag Grenades are anti-infantry. They have a reasonably large blast radius so watch out for friendly fire.

Jammer Grenades do no damage, but shut down electronics and reset players implants within their blast radius. They seem to last for a few seconds ( I don't know exactly how long).

Plasma grenades can damage infantry and vehicles. They create a zone of green glowing plasma that damages anyone within it (sort of like a Damage over Time spell).

Yes.

AP takes down the armor rating on MAX suits quicker than regular rounds, but a MAX suit can usually take you out before they lose all their armor so I normally just pack normal rounds.

However, since we are Vanu now, this doesn't matter because our only ammo on the energy weapons is the energy packs and they can be switched from regular to AP instantly at will.

To get fully certed in Both BFR's requires over requires 5 certs for tanks, then an additional 4 or 5 certs towards the BFR, thats a lot of certs for someone not committed to Armor.

Yes I once killed a BFR in a stealth suit with my repeater, they do have weaknesses.

For the first max, you need 5 cave facility takeovers and 75 cave kills, and full Tank certs.

The second requires more cave action as well as some CR rank.

One more set while I'm on the subject of pestering people...

What are the requirements for using ancient tech weapons? Provided I invest the certs into the proper field, why can I not use the mealstorm, despite my having heavy assault certed?

There is also some goal in the Caverns you need to achieve prior to getting the ancient tech weapons

I reactivated my account but can't seem to get into the caverns. What needs to be done to get there?

CC should be free, have you fully updated all files?

If so, are you trying to enter through an active Cave Warp?

Krog, are you going to the warps for the caverns? If so, does it say something along the lines of "the cavern is closed right now" or something along the lines of "you must enable the CC expansion to go there" ?

Reservists can't do any the CC stuff right? When I log in it says "1 Expansion Enabled", but I can't use the equipment or visit the caves.

Reservists are not restricted from the caves. Each cave map is only open for a limited time, further more you must enter them from a special cave warp gate.

Caves are nothing special anyway, I haven't botherd to go near them since coming back.

I was ablt to hop in one the other day. Seems the pilot crouched down to repair and there was a gunner spot. So I jumped inside.

Fun stuff (cept when he walked and it was shaking all over the place)!

It seems a bit overpowered. We got hit with everything and he only healed up twice in like 10-15 mins.

They are overpowered. I was in the gunner seat for about 45 minutes in one and we would get hammered by tanks and rockets and the shield would hardly flinch. The only surefire way to take out a BFR is to use another BFR against it.

I don't know about all this BFRs are overpowered business. I have never been bothered by them. They are very powerful, but like everything else they have their counters. I supose if you were looking at this from a tradition shooter game where everyone can kill everyone else, they would look a lot out of whack, but that's not Planetside.

BFRs take a lot of certs, cave requirement, they need a tech plant, and they have a 20 minute timer to get another one should they die. Tehy are slow so are easy to avoid for the most part. They make outdoor battles more static I think and that's actually good.

When I last played Planetside about a year ago I saw a single hotdropers from a mosquito kill BFRs constantly. I guess decimators aren't as good against them now or something, since I haven't seen that tactic being employed since I came back.
