Back when I began playing, we fielded 15 or so orcs online at a time. That was well after our hayday. I really think we're one of the most lasting and recognizable guilds in MMORPGs.

Hopefully when we attack Warhammer and Darkfall we can see those numbers again.

As I understand, it's normal for us to do so when we first start out in a game. After the first year, however, numbers begin to wane because of game mechanics and design. Our numbers enjoyed an enduring surplus in UO because the staying power of the game. Sadly, games these days are designed to pander to a certain player-type, and it seems that player-type is the anti-thesis to the normal Shadowclan member. We do have a good ole fashioned hoot for the first year or so. Hopefully, Warhammer and Darkfall will provide a game with the perseverance of UO. Like most, I am skeptical of these new-fangled games though and I cling to my old two-dimentional, isometric view Angel Island UO.

UO was the only game to date that I have played that had a fairly interactive world. Skys the limit when you can get an axe from an orc corpse, chop wood from a tree, turn wood into shafts, go kill a bird with same axe, get some feathers. Combine wood and shafts to make arrows. Go chop more wood, turn it into planks, turn them into arrows then go shoot stuff with the bow and arrows you just made.

From getting wool from sheep and dyeing it green to making aprons to mineing ore that can then be turned into plate armor. UO is the ultimate interactive game.. All else has fallen short.

And only in UO can a smith make you up a suit of armor then beat you to death with a hammer made from the same pile of ingots.

Just a note to new-comers. Picture Sigs are frowned upon on our boards they take up a lot of space and make things look messy. Please change it to text or a mod will.

Let's construct a wikipedia page worthy of Shadowclan. We have far too much old knowledge cooped in this message board for it not to spill over into Wikipedia, in a monument to our online achievement and our geek-dom as players. I've already started writing some more, but I'm very new to Wikipedia. Someone else jump in and start adding stuff!

Be very careful what you add to the wikipedia page. The page was set up with what it has on it, and how it presents the data, for a reason. Wikipedia has certain policies on what it allows and what it doesn't.

Wikipedia does not allow 'advertisements' or 'recruiting pages'. It requires objectively reported facts of interest to the general populace. It's not a place for vanity posts.

If you wish to add to the wikipedia page, I'd suggest joining the Shadowclan Mission group and discussing it with them. They put the Wikipedia page together as part of the mission project.

Is there a way that we can get Wiki to lock that page and have it password protected so only a designated clan official can add the page? That way somebody can't start adding to it on their own and get the page banned from the encyclopedia.

Was that whole catskills writeup that now appears on our wiki page reviewed and approved by the helm before being posted there?

No.

You can, however, monitor the page as often as you like, and there are features to automatically revert to a previous version if you disagree with someone else's edits.

What we need is a Shadowclan wiki!

If anyone can find a cheap server that supports
# Apache: 2.0.46
# PHP: 4.3.10
# MySQL: 3.23.58 (needs to be 4.0 or higher)

we can set up a Mediawiki for stories, bios, gameplay tips, etc!

EDIT: Whoops. Misquote. The stats listed above are what our webserver is currently running. To get Mediawiki running (it's the wiki that I have a little experience with and which seems very full featured which is why I mention it) we need,

Quote:
any web server (apache2 is suggested), PHP ≥ 4.3 (PHP 4.4.2 or 5.1.2 is suggested, NOTE: PHP ≥ 5.0 is required if running MediaWiki 1.7 or higher) and MySQL ≥ 4.0 (MySQL 4.0.23 or higher is suggested)

But, if someone has another wiki they like that will run under our current setup, I'll be glad to assist with steup / admin / contributions!

Our current hosting plan has the horsepower to offer us a wiki facility if that's what's needed.

The information I and others have recorded is sheerly objective fact regarding the history and structure of the clan. I would be over-joyed if we actually turned it into a comprehensive resource for the Clan's entire history and make-up in all of the games we've been in. I'm trying to cover all of the bases but it's my hope that someone more knowledgable will come in behind me and mop up the mess I've been writing and fill in the holes.

No, I offered it of my own volition, seperate from the Clan Helm. I didn't know the Clan Helm's influence exteneded into the wikiuniverse. Smile

Reread the part where I say 'of interest to the general populace'. I could objectively post my family dinner menus for the past month, and yet it would not be of general interest. Why in the world would anyone but Shadowclan care about our religious rank? And not even all of Shadowclan cares. Only those that were in the Cats branch. Not even all of those. I was there, held some of those ranks, and I don't care.

What you've put there is not appropriate for Wikipedia. For our own wiki, maybe. As I suggested, you should discuss these things with the mission group, or don't meddle with it.
