Thought I'd put this here since it's not a real "orc" type game but looks amazing.

Anyone backed it or following it? It's by Chris Roberts. Looks like an awesome sandbox that's almost too good to be true and the crowd funding amounts he's raised are ridiculous.

I backed this late last year when they first announced it. I think Alpha access should be before the end of the year.

My biggest beef is the system specs they're targeting...(well, actually, it's the attitude of the community towards this specs, which is "If you don't have the max system, you're a tool and should just go DIAF...")

A bigger hive of scum and villainy, you'll never see.

Well the game's two years out until release so their specs will be the norm by then. It's only CryEngine 3 too, which was released a while back.

I'm looking forward to the dog fighting alpha this Dec.

Amazed they made over $670,000 just yesterday. Think he's going to put Virgin Galactic out of business if he keeps going at this rate.

I'm watching this game as back in the day I loved the Wing Commander games. Even though I heard some negative things I loved Privateer. I never got a hold of Privateer II.

I almost backed the original push but hadn't looked out there in a while. They are doing amazing. Love the idea of the designing a spaceship contest. Wish I had the technical skills to enter.

I backed it last May, bought a Mustang Alpha package with Alpha and beta access.

Just have to upgrade my graphics card now so i can run it over 25 fps lol.

I also managed to win a forum giveaway for a MISC Starfarer LTI (can't believe I got that lucky).

Debating doing a CCU from Mustang Alpha to MISC Reliant for early play to build up the funds to run my big ship later.

You're assuming this game is actually going to release.

I really wish they'd stop with stretch goals, and just finish the game...or push more of the goals into an expansion.

They keep collecting more money, and not actually releasing anything.

This project is going to be more interesting for the lawsuits than the game.

Yeah. Though all their releases are within their legal framework. Usually get the modules out +/- a month or two of what they forecast so there's no real legal issues. If it goes over 12 months then you can claim your "refund." Really depends what you pay for though, like if you buy something that has already been developed and is available you have no claim.

I haven't checked it out for a while. Been wanting to see the FPS gameplay and supposedly that's up along with select star system(s), multi-crew ships, social modules and planet side stuff.

Thing that bugged me the most is the price on the Oculus Rift.

What kind of headcount are we looking at for clan members? I currently have 2 ships that I've been able to toy with in Alpha.

An Aegis Avenger Titan for versatility.
Also a 315p Explorer for long range reconnaissance purposes.

So, 3.0.0 is out as of a week ago. Which while it's still in alpha, it means it's open to everyone. Though you do need to pay to play (and test)

Curious if anyone is currently playing this, or interested?

I keep checking in from time to time. I don't want to invest too much time though, definitely don't want to burn out on this one before launch.

I really don't see the game being released for a few years still.

i'd hope for 2, but i'd bet on 4 or more.

Yes it will be a while but they are going at a good pace now. I heard the testing universe is constantly growing and you can now trade between ports as well.

Yeah, it's somewhat limited. There are a few things you can do.

Missions which consist of quite a few types. Pick up waste and get it off a planet, pick up an item and deliver it, fly to a comm relay and turn it off so the bad guys can go do bad guy stuff, salvage ships, both in space and crashed on a planet, and you can go kill badguys too on some quests.

The trading of cargo between ports, space stations and small colonies is kinda fun. Each place doesn't have unlimited resources to buy, the smaller ones have very little, and the larger have more, and prices change based on how much is bought or purchased. So you can make a good bit of money depending on how large your cargo hold is.

Right now i currently have a Mustang Alpha, which doesn't hold much cargo, it's more of a light freight/ fighter. I also have a Hornet, which i don't think holds much freight, and is a bit beefier in combat. Then my favorite is my Freelancer. Lots of cargo space, but is a bit of a boat.

I have some friends who have larger ships, and, by larger, i mean, took us half an hour to find the cockpit to actually launch the thing. I got to fly it, and promptly nose dived into a planet. oops!

You can buy weapons, armour, grenades, Oxypens, medipens, and different parts for your ship. THough this is all in the Persistant Univers. THere are also 2 other game modes, one is basically a space fighting sim with the ships you have access to, the other is a FPS type style. THough you can dogfight and do FPS in the Persistant Universe as well. It's just so huge that you wouldn't have much luck finding anyone.

Currently, there is one planet, a gas giant that you cannot land on, but it has four moons, that you can land on, and quite a few comm arrays, space stations etc. You can also land on asteroids etc.

It's quite fun, and they plan to add more features every 3 months or so while they tweak and optimize what is currently going on.

Edit: When i say planet i mean moon.

That's not too bad. I can't wait until there's much more. I had to stop checking their website so I'd stop spending money. Think I bought too many ships.

I was in the PTU last month before they released 3.0. I haven't done anything with it since, but I'll probably be playing it for a bit tomorrow or Saturday. We have a Star Citizen voice channel in the Shadowclan discord. https://discord.gg/dyNRFQH
